How to play Star Battle

Choose a round of Star Battle and settle into its rules. Place one star in each row, column and region, with no touching stars even diagonally. Use the example below to understand a decision. Use the opening round to become familiar with the layout. Check the relevant rule before repeating a move.

Solve ten 6×6 puzzles with one star in every row, column and region. These boards use the one-star rule.

Build a steady rhythm

Take enough time to read a new position. If a game has a timer, learn its controls first rather than searching for them during the round. Refer to the controls when needed.

Your goal

Place one star in each row, column and region, with no touching stars even diagonally. An attractive position is not enough unless the goal is met. Check the rules when you are unsure.

Step by step

  1. Tap to place a star, mark a cell or clear it.
  2. Respect fixed starter stars.
  3. Check rows, columns and coloured regions.
  4. Check puzzle verifies the final arrangement.

Controls

Click or tap squares or graph edges. Number boards include a digit pad. Undo reverses the previous change; Check puzzle validates the solution. Read a button’s label before selecting it. A new-round button replaces the current round.

A useful example

A placed star rules out all eight neighbouring squares. Apply the same reasoning to the position in your own round. Consider the next action carefully.

Watch out for this

Different rows do not make diagonal neighbours legal. Take a moment to reassess the position before continuing. Locate the buttons and input area before beginning a long round. Use the on-screen labels to avoid an accidental restart.
