How to play Sokoban

Try Sokoban at your own pace and keep its objective in view. Push every crate onto a target. Choose a clear next step rather than rushing through the instructions. Keep the instructions close while learning this activity. Look at what changes after your first action.

Push two crates onto their targets in compact 7×7 rooms. The starting layouts can be solved; an unhelpful push may still trap a crate.

Notice the feedback

Watch the feedback after an action. A message can explain whether the input was accepted or whether a rule needs attention. Refer to the controls when needed.

Your goal

Push every crate onto a target. The feedback beside the game helps you follow the round. Review the board or playing area as it changes.

Step by step

  1. Move through empty floor.
  2. Push one crate into empty space.
  3. Never pull or push two at once.
  4. Undo a deadlock and continue.

Controls

Arrow keys or direction buttons. On a smaller screen, keep the active part of the board within view. Contact us with the game and device if a control does not respond.

A useful example

A crate in a non-target corner cannot be recovered by pulling. Focus on why the action is allowed, not only its outcome. Check the stated objective.

Watch out for this

Consider the player’s access behind crates. Compare the situation with the worked example. Before your first action, say what you are trying to achieve. Then compare the result with the goal.
