How to play Match Three

Start Match Three by looking at the playing area and its controls. Score 900 points in twenty-five moves. Choose a clear next step rather than rushing through the instructions. Treat the first round as a chance to learn the controls. Keep the game area visible while you use its controls.

8×8 board, move budget, cascades and no-legal-move handling.

Review a difficult moment

When a decision goes wrong, compare it with the common mistake described below. Start again only when you intend to leave the current round. Make the next step deliberately.

Your goal

Score 900 points in twenty-five moves. Use the instructions to see which actions move you towards it. Return to the instructions when a step is unclear.

Step by step

  1. Swap adjacent pieces to make a line of three or more.
  2. Matched pieces disappear.
  3. Falling pieces can trigger cascades.
  4. Reach the target before running out of moves.

Controls

Tap adjacent cells. Keep the playing area visible while using these controls. Contact us with the game and device if a control does not respond.

A useful example

A horizontal swap can complete a vertical line. Use the example as a guide rather than a substitute for reading your board. Look for the relevant detail.

Watch out for this

A swap making no match is reverted. Read the feedback to see why an action did not have the expected result. After a move, check what changed. Decide which rule explains the new state before acting again.
