How to play Crossword
Try Crossword at your own pace and keep its objective in view. Fill every open square so the intersecting Across and Down answers match their clues. Keep the game area visible while you use its controls. Identify the playing area and the controls you need. Look at what changes after your first action.
Solve 24 connected 15×15 layouts with 11–20 entries each. Use the original English clues and scroll the board on narrow screens; completed layouts may appear again.
Review a difficult moment
When a decision goes wrong, compare it with the common mistake described below. Start again only when you intend to leave the current round. Notice the feedback after each input.
Your goal
Fill every open square so the intersecting Across and Down answers match their clues. Use the instructions to see which actions move you towards it. Take a moment to understand the current position.
Step by step
- Choose a numbered Across or Down clue to highlight its answer.
- Select a square and type a letter, or use the on-screen alphabet.
- Shared letters belong to both crossing answers. Selecting a shared square twice changes direction.
- Use Check entries to review entered letters. Reveal selected supplies one letter and counts as help.
- Complete every open square to solve the puzzle. Dark squares are not filled.
Controls
Select a clue or square. Use your physical keyboard or the on-screen letters, Erase, Check entries and Reveal selected. Scroll within the board on a narrow screen. On a smaller screen, keep the active part of the board within view. A new-round button replaces the current round.
A useful example
For the clue “A chart showing days, weeks and months”, the answer is CALENDAR. It occupies 8 squares, and each crossing uses the same letter. Focus on why the action is allowed, not only its outcome. Keep the game’s format in mind.
Watch out for this
Do not fill dark squares. A letter that fits one answer must also fit the crossing clue. Compare the situation with the worked example. When a decision goes wrong, compare it with the common mistake described below. Start again only when you intend to leave the current round.
